Hungarian Shashlik (匈牙利肉串)
Spicy, delicious, and prepared in an instant. The classic hungarian Shashlik skewers are everybody’s favorite. Also perfectly suitable for a nice barbecue during hot Shanghai summer.
Ingredients
- 500g pork (猪肉)
- 150g bacon (培根)
- 1 paprika (辣椒粉)
- 1 onion (洋葱)
- 1 bottle of “Hot Chili” sauce (or similar) (辣番茄酱)
- 1 cube of vegetable soup (蔬菜汤块)
Preparation
Cut meat into pieces of about 2×3 cm in size. Prepare a bowl with 3 Tbs of olive oil, 1 Tsp of salt, 1 Tsp of pepper, 1 Tsp of paprica powder and 4 Tbs of chili sauce. Fill in the meat, stir and put into fridge for about 1 hr.
Cut paprica, onion and bacon into small pieces and put 3-4 pieces of each on skewers together with the meat. Fry in very hot oil for about 30-60 seconds on each side. No need for the meat to be “done” yet!
Use the remaining frying fat with a little white wine or brandy, add remaining chili sauce and heaten up. Put skewers into a fire-proof pan and fill up with vegetable stock soup until about half height. Add the chili sauce then put skewers into oven and bake at 180 degrees for about 30-60 minutes. Serve with french fries or rice when finished.
